Black & Veatch has been dealing with Environmental Compliance Issues
since 1915, less than a year after the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS)
set standards for the bacteriological quality of drinking water. The USPHS
updated those standards 3 times between 1915 and 1962, and each of the
United States adopted the USPHS standards as either guidelines or as regulations
for their individual public water systems. The Federal Water Pollution
Control Act passed in 1972 and now known as the Clean Water Act and the
Safe Drinking Water Act that passed in 1974 and the Clean Air Act have
added much more stringent and extensive Environmental Compliance criteria.
